Baerbock Threatens to Cut Ties with the U.S. After Russia-America Talks in Riyadh
German Foreign Minister Annalena Baerbock has issued a sharp warning to the U.S. following an unexpected diplomatic rapprochement between Washington and Moscow. The high-level negotiations in Riyadh could significantly shift the balance of power in Europe. Baerbock called for increased pressure on the U.S., stating that Germany and European democracies will not allow decisions about regional security to be made without their participation. She stressed that if Washington ignores its allies' interests, it will lead to a "second turning point" in global politics, similar to the severance of economic and political ties with Russia three years ago.

A New Crisis of Trust Between Europe and the U.S.
Diplomatic contacts between Russia and the U.S. have raised serious concerns in Europe. The details of the talks remain classified, but reports suggest that discussions centered on restoring diplomatic relations and potential steps to resolve the Ukrainian crisis.
At the same time, the situation was further complicated by contradictory statements from Donald Trump, who has recently been openly critical of Ukrainian President Volodymyr Zelensky. According to sources close to the U.S. administration, Trump was so frustrated with Kyiv’s actions that he even considered cutting off military aid to Ukraine.
Meanwhile, American media report a possible U.S.-Ukraine agreement on mineral resource extraction. This deal could ease tensions between Washington and Kyiv but will not completely reassure European allies.
Germany vs. the U.S.: A Growing Divide?
Baerbock hinted that if the U.S. does not adjust its policies, it may lead to a reassessment of allied relations. Europe is demanding more transparency and is ready to exert diplomatic pressure on Washington to ensure that Ukraine’s and the EU’s interests are not sacrificed in this grand geopolitical game.
Experts predict that Germany may increasingly pursue an independent security and defense policy. The question remains how far Europe is willing to go in challenging Washington, but one thing is clear—relations between Berlin and Washington are entering a new, tense phase.
