Armenia refuses to fund CSTO in 2024
Yerevan has officially announced it will not participate in the organization's 2024 budget.
Armenia has decided not to pay its membership contribution to the Collective Security Treaty Organization (CSTO) for 2024. The country’s Ministry of Foreign Affairs confirmed that an official notice has been sent to the organization’s secretariat.
According to the ministry, Armenia declined to sign the resolution “On the CSTO Budget for 2024” and, consequently, will not take part in financing the structure. The foreign ministry also emphasized that under CSTO internal regulations, details of the annual budget are not subject to public disclosure.
This move follows a series of steps by Yerevan aimed at reassessing its relationship with the CSTO. Armenian officials have repeatedly voiced dissatisfaction over the bloc’s lack of support during border escalations with Azerbaijan.
Armenia’s refusal to contribute to the budget may be seen as a deepening rift between Yerevan and the military alliance, which includes Russia, Belarus, Kazakhstan, Kyrgyzstan, and Tajikistan.
