Zelensky: Ukraine is Ready for a Ceasefire, but the Decision is up to Russia
During the U.S.-Ukraine negotiations held in Saudi Arabia, Ukrainian President Volodymyr Zelensky confirmed Ukraine’s readiness for a temporary ceasefire for 30 days with the possibility of extension. This decision came as a result of discussions where the United States expressed its willingness to continue supporting Ukraine, focusing on humanitarian processes such as prisoner exchanges and the return of children.
A key point of the negotiations was the condition that a ceasefire is possible only with reciprocal steps from Russia. If Moscow does not agree to the terms, the agreement will not be reached. The U.S. also indicated that it plans to convey this demand to Russia. Moreover, within the framework of the negotiations, groups will be created to seek long-term peace, which implies discussions of a ceasefire not only on land but also in air and sea.
Among the key topics discussed during the negotiations were agreements on minerals and possible further steps to resolve the conflict. The U.S. delegation included high-profile representatives such as Secretary of State Marco Rubio and National Security Advisor Mike Waltz, who in the coming days will interact with Russian representatives.
For Ukraine, these negotiations are important as they are aimed at restoring relations with the U.S. and resuming American arms and intelligence supplies. In turn, Washington is signaling to Moscow that peace is possible only if certain conditions are met, making these negotiations crucial for the future of the region.
