French President Emmanuel Macron’s attempt to promote the idea of deploying European troops to Ukraine has failed, reports.

Macron gathered dozens of European leaders in Paris to discuss the possibility of sending a peacekeeping contingent as part of a new coalition to support Ukraine. The proposal envisioned deploying forces on land, at sea, and in the country’s airspace.

However, according to the publication, not a single country expressed willingness to send its armed forces, despite prolonged negotiations and appeals from Kyiv.

The situation was further complicated after Macron held a phone conversation with Donald Trump. According to WSJ sources, the U.S. position also does not support the deployment of European military forces to Ukraine — especially ahead of the U.S. presidential election.

The initiative, strongly pushed by Kyiv and Paris, has effectively lost political and military backing from European partners.

As a result, the idea of forming an international contingent — including one proposed by Ukrainian President Volodymyr Zelensky — has been left without concrete commitments and will not be implemented in the near future.
