Trump: The US will leave if Ukraine does not want peace

Donald Trump has once again made sharp statements regarding the situation in Ukraine, emphasizing that the United States is not willing to endlessly support Kyiv if it is not ready for a peaceful settlement. His words came amid prolonged fighting and uncertainty regarding continued support for Ukraine from the US and Europe.

Main points of Trump’s statements:

It is easier to negotiate with Russia than with Kyiv. According to Trump, Ukraine is delaying the negotiation process, while Russia is ready to discuss peace terms.

Ukraine has no leverage in negotiations. The former US president believes that the ongoing fighting has brought Kyiv into a position where it has few options for successful dialogue with Moscow.

Putin didn’t want war, but now he is ready to make concessions. Trump claims that Russian President Vladimir Putin initially did not plan a full-scale conflict, but is now willing to discuss its conclusion on certain conditions.

Without Trump, peace is impossible. The politician is confident that only he can bring both sides to an agreement, as Europe, in his opinion, does not know what to do.

The US will leave if Ukraine doesn’t want to resolve the conflict. Trump says that the US will not continue supporting Kyiv if it refuses peace talks.

Trump against Russia? New sanctions and tariffs. Despite his statement that dealing with Moscow is easier than with Kyiv, Trump unexpectedly threatened Russia with tough sanctions and tariffs. On his social media platform Truth Social, he wrote:

“Russia is wreaking havoc on Ukraine on the battlefield, so I am seriously considering tough banking sanctions and tariffs against Moscow—until there is a ceasefire and peace agreement.”

Furthermore, he called for both sides to immediately sit down for negotiations, adding:

“It’s not too late.”

This statement creates a contradictory picture: on one hand, Trump hints at a possible deal with Russia, while on the other, he threatens it with sanctions if a peace agreement is not reached.

What’s behind Trump’s words? Trump is actively using the Ukrainian issue in his presidential campaign, trying to present himself as a peacemaker capable of resolving the conflict. However, his rhetoric remains ambiguous:

These statements may be aimed both at attracting American voters tired of supporting Ukraine and at creating leverage over both sides of the conflict.
