The US holds China responsible for spreading the coronavirus and demands $24 billion
The court established that:
- China knew about the virus but concealed its scale. According to case materials, Chinese researchers discovered COVID-19 at least two weeks before the official announcement.
- Beijing allegedly limited the export of medical protective equipment. This worsened the situation in the US and other countries, causing shortages of masks and protective suits.
- The US may seize Chinese assets. State authorities are considering the confiscation of agricultural lands owned by Chinese investors.
- The state attorney general said: "China caused immeasurable suffering and economic collapse. We will take everything, down to the last penny!"
The Chinese side called this decision "legally null and void" and threatened tough countermeasures. A representative of the Chinese embassy stated that Beijing will respond within the framework of international law.
At the same time, the FBI and the US Department of Energy are confident that the pandemic began due to a leak from a lab in Wuhan. This provides additional grounds for pressure on China.
The question remains open: will this lead to a new wave of sanctions, or are the US simply using the situation to confiscate Chinese assets?
