Tesla has found itself at the center of a major social and political crisis in the United States. According to the , incidents of arson at charging stations, attacks on showrooms, and vandalism of Tesla vehicles have been recorded in at least seven states, including Oregon, Illinois, Texas, and Massachusetts.

The protests erupted amid a sharp decline in sales, quality issues with Tesla products, Elon Musk’s political activism, and his growing alignment with Donald Trump’s administration.

Since December 2024, Tesla’s stock has fallen by 51%. The company also issued a mass recall of 46,000 Cybertrucks due to body panel defects, which reportedly detach while driving. Legal investigations are ongoing into various technical and financial claims.

Musk made a public appeal to the protesters:

“I get it — you don’t want to buy our products. But stop burning them. Stop going insane!”

U.S. Attorney General Pam Bondi called the events “domestic terrorism,” while Donald Trump compared the vandalism to the Capitol riot:

“What’s happening to Tesla is worse than January 6.”

Meanwhile, a new trend has spread on social media and Amazon: “I bought this before Elon went crazy” — stickers with this phrase are now being placed on Tesla cars and merchandise.

The protests and boycott of the brand have also spread to Europe, where some markets are reporting a decline in interest in Tesla EVs, including from corporate clients.

As the crisis escalates, Elon Musk is trying to retain employees and investors, urging them not to dump shares and promising a “bright future.”

Despite Tesla’s fall, SpaceX continues to earn Musk reputational victories, especially in the context of Mars exploration and new space program launches.
