A senior representative of the Taliban* has made a provocative statement, promising to capture Tajikistan in just three days. According to him, the operation would be “easy” and would face little resistance.

The Taliban leader emphasized that the only obstacle in their path is Russia, which, he said, “would intervene if it weren't focused on Ukraine.” At the moment, according to him, Moscow is preoccupied with its conflict with the West, which creates an opportunity to “redraw borders” in the region.

Notably, last year Taliban figures claimed they would need a week to occupy Tajikistan. Now, they believe they can act faster.

The statement comes amid ongoing regional instability and growing popularity of radical ideologies. In Central Asia, including Kazakhstan, multiple instances of extremist propaganda and sympathies toward Taliban ideology have been documented.

Experts warn that despite appearing distant, the Taliban continues to use rhetoric of strength and intimidation toward its neighbors, applying pressure on weaker regimes and border states.

Against the backdrop of global developments — U.S. elections, the war in Ukraine, and technological shifts — the southern flank remains vulnerable. Tajik authorities have yet to comment on the statement, but military activity in the region is already increasing.
