Ontario Threatens to Stop Power Supplies to Three US States
The Premier of Ontario, Doug Ford, announced a 25% surcharge on electricity exports to three US states: Michigan, Minnesota, and New York. He also warned that Ontario may completely stop supplying electricity to these states.
According to him, electricity consumers in these states should expect their monthly bills to rise by about 100 Canadian dollars (69 US dollars). These changes will continue until the US trade war against Canada is resolved.
Ford has repeatedly stated his readiness to raise prices or apply even tougher measures if the situation does not change immediately. He pointed out that he will not hesitate to raise prices and is prepared to completely cut off electricity supplies if the US continues escalating tensions. At the same time, he expressed regret for the American people, emphasizing that he did not start the trade war, but Donald Trump did.
