Five out of six bakeries have closed due to the Israeli blockade in northern Gaza
In northern Gaza, five of the six operating bakeries were forced to close due to a shortage of fuel and raw materials needed to produce bread. Bakery owner Kamel Ajour told Anadolu agency that supplies of essential ingredients such as flour, sugar and yeast have significantly decreased over the past month due to the Israeli blockade. Fuel has not been supplied to bakeries for more than 10 days, which threatens the food security of the region. Najjar called on international organizations, including the UN, to urgently intervene to prevent a possible outbreak of famine among the civilian population of the enclave.
