400 days of Israeli bombing: disastrous consequences for Gaza
The UN has presented a report that records data on large—scale civilian casualties in Gaza over 400 days of Israeli bombing: 70% of the dead were women and children, thousands of families were affected, communications and infrastructure were destroyed, which exacerbates the humanitarian crisis.
Today marks the 400th day since the beginning of the Israeli bombing of the Gaza Strip. A new report by the UN Office for Human Rights records the catastrophic consequences of these actions for the civilian population. The report indicates that from November 2023 to April 2024, 70% of the victims in Gaza were women and children. 80% of the dead were in their homes, which highlights the indiscriminate nature of the attacks, which particularly affected children aged 5 to 9 years. The youngest victim is a newborn baby, and the oldest is a 97—year—old woman. Other crimes include deliberate disconnections and destruction of communications, attacks on journalists, mass displacement of the population, destruction of educational institutions and hospitals, which makes Gaza "the most dangerous place on earth for journalists." In 400 days, Israeli forces carried out 3,759 mass killings, killing more than 53,500 people, including 17,000 children, 12,000 women and more than 1,000 medical workers. During this time, 85,500 tons of explosives were dropped on Gaza, which is equivalent to 7 nuclear bombs. The number of casualties continues to rise, especially in the northern besieged part of Gaza, where medical care and protection are lacking.
